Build a California Bar Exam Study Schedule

A schedule should be a realistic allocation of attention, not a promise that a fixed number of weeks works for everyone.

Start with hours you can actually protect

List work, family, health and travel commitments before assigning study blocks. Reserve time for sleep and a weekly buffer. A plan with no room for interruptions is difficult to repair when life happens.

Choose a small set of weekly outcomes: recall a particular group of rules, complete an essay exercise, review a multiple-choice set and revisit prior errors. Outcomes are more informative than simply logging time at a desk.

Use a repeatable weekly cycle

Early in the week, work on a weaker subject with an outline and closed-book recall. In the middle of the week, apply the same material to questions or essay issues. Later, mix it with older subjects to see whether you can identify the doctrine without a subject cue.

Include deliberate review after each practice block. Record the missed rule, the factual clue and the repair task. A second attempt several days later is more diagnostic than immediately repeating the same answer from memory.

Rebalance from evidence

At the end of each week, compare planned and completed work. Reduce an overloaded plan before carrying every missed task into the next week. Maintain coverage of stronger subjects while directing extra time to recurring weaknesses.

Complete customers can access the existing eight-week plan and study schedule in their dashboard. The public planning method here is free. Check the State Bar for your exam date, deadlines and accommodations; no study schedule replaces those instructions.
