Study Tools for California Law Students
Law school and bar preparation overlap, but they are not interchangeable. Start with your course’s assigned law and exam expectations, then use a study aid to organize and test recall.

Your professor may emphasize different cases, policy questions or jurisdictional rules than a bar study aid. Keep assigned materials as the primary reference and use supplemental tools to clarify the structure.
After class, turn one doctrine into a short retrieval prompt. Answer it the next day without notes. If you miss an element, revisit the relevant reading rather than adding more cards that repeat the same gap.
Connect case learning with issue spotting
A case brief helps explain why a court reached a result. A rule checklist helps you identify questions in new facts. Practice both by changing one fact from a case and explaining whether the analysis changes.
Before finals, build an attack outline from your course outline. Test it on practice problems your instructor makes available. Reviewing your own omissions produces a more useful checklist than copying someone else’s shorthand.
Understand the Foundations scope
The existing 1L Foundations package covers Contracts, Torts, Real Property, Criminal Law, Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law. It includes the listed outlines, flashcards, issue checklists and semester calendar.
Schools organize first-year courses differently, so compare the package with your actual course list. Flash Bar is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by your law school. Free sample cards let you try the study format before choosing a package.
